You Are Not A Tree

in fact,
you are a tree –
you change with the seasons
unquestioningly.
you change with sheer conviction
that sunlight will carry you through.

in fact,
you are a tree –
all you need is nature’s basic wisdom
and the laughter of children
to remind you to look up
and be grateful

because tomorrow
you shed your leaves and start anew.
